Michael Gordon, a 27-year-old vocalist, guitarist, and producer from New Jersey who performs as Mk.gee, is a musical prodigy whose thrilling and mysterious adventures in pop have seen him hailed as a new kind of guitar hero. His hypnagogic and impressionistic debut album, Two Star & The Dream Police, released in February 2024, captivated both fans and critics alike, drawing attention from notable artists like Eric Clapton, Justin Bieber, John Mayer, Justin Vernon, and SZA.

Previously, Mk.gee released Pronounced McGee in 2018, a groovy, sun-bleached double EP that he made in his bedroom, grounded in the beach rock, psych-funk and late-70s R&B of his adolescence. He was a Dazed cover star for The Impossible Issue in August 2024. “I just want to be known for making the best music. Not for anything else, really. I’m not trying to sell you anything,” he said in the interview with Connor Garel.

Tyler Rexeisen

Born and raised in Southern California, Tyler “T-Rex” Rexeisen started his love for art at a young age. Rexeisen’s artwork has caught the attention of some of the biggest names in the industry, drawing influence from fashion, streetwear, and skate culture. His signature works feature paintings and illustrations of his signature red devil girl characters, usually pistol-toting and wearing high heels with an intense, glossy gaze.

Rexeisen explores his inner struggles with youth, rebellion, vices, and spiritual warfare in his work. He currently works out of his studio on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. With a new series of works experimenting with airbrush, aerosol, and sculpture, he is developing a fresh new aesthetic to add to his arsenal. He’s also recently dipped his toe into the fashion world, designing the first collections of his new clothing label, Rexeizen.

JACINDA, who goes mononymously by their given name, is a 26-year-old multifaceted artist who loves to please their inner child by exploring a variety of art mediums, including makeup, hair, and modelling. After moving to Los Angeles four years ago, they earned recognition for their makeup artistry with creations like Uniliner, and recently, they have been exploring their latest passion, sculptural hair art, which they also incorporate into their modelling. They believe curiosity is their greatest superpower and are currently working on slowing down, practising silence and stillness to stay grounded, and not equating their achievements with their worth.

Andrea Torres

Andrea Torres is a 27-year-old Texas-raised, New York-based film programmer and publicist whose curatorial focus explores depictions of the lesbian identity. Her series Sapph-O-Rama, co-programmed with Emily Greenberg, opened in February at Film Forum, New York’s leading independent arthouse theatre. A 30-film survey exploring the eccentric, enduring history of the lesbian image through the last century, Sappho-O-Rama featured events with Yvonne Rainer, Natasha Lyonne, David Stenn, Sheila McLaughlin, and more. As a publicist at Film Forum since 2021, Andrea has spearheaded release campaigns for hundreds of theatrical premieres, for the films of veteran documentarians Frederick Wiseman and Werner Herzog to the rogue-ish experimental video artists Soda Jerk, as well as retrospectives of such luminaries as Isabelle Huppert, Ken Loach, Ousmane Sembène, and Mai Zetterling.

Centring a playful aphrodisiac of underseen and unconventional works – positioned in dialogue with the written word, performance, and visual art – Torres strives to move audiences beyond reverential distance towards tangible, joyful engagement. Andrea has cultivated a vibrant community of moviegoers, foregrounding overlooked cinematic documents to extract foundational text as a radical tool of inspiration, provocation, and social transformation. Recently, Torres brought together a triptych of rare, underground films to Dear Friends Books’ summer cinema series in Brooklyn. Her series, Lesbiennes, co-programmed with Greenberg, was presented in the Fall of 2024 in Paris at the historic independent arthouse theatres Christine and Écoles Cinéma Club.

Ebhoni Cato O’Garro, better known as SadBoi, is a 24-year-old Atlanta-based recording artist from Toronto, Canada. With Jamaican and Antiguan heritage deeply ingrained in her musical roots, SadBoi’s music weaves elements of reggae, baile-funk, dancehall, and Caribbean culture with R&B, rap, rock, and pop music. SadBoi embraces vulnerability and emotional depth in her music, captivating listeners with soulful vocals and introspective lyrics and addressing themes of love, female empowerment, heartbreak, and self-discovery, connecting with her fans (known as “The Crybabiez”) on a profound level.

Selena Ruiz is a makeup artist from Riverside, California. At age 21, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams in the beauty industry. Ruiz’s approach to makeup stems from the great losses she endured at age 16, losing her mother, first love, and her grandmother just 9 days apart. “Out of fear of showing my vulnerability, I masked my face with extremely distracting makeup for years, making a name for myself,” she says. “When that no longer served me, I began putting my masks on other faces for the first time. It filled that missing piece, and the rest is history.” Ruiz’s celebrity clients include Kali Uchi, who she went on tour with in 2023, and Duckwrth. After doing makeup on a few young deceased women over the past few years, her next career goal is to become a mortician.

Toni Bravo is a 24-year-old Long Beach-born creative based in Los Angeles who creates beauty and lifestyle content emphasising diversity and belonging. Shorty after working part-time at a beauty brand, Bravo says she realised just how much the industry lacked inclusivity, diversity, and just folks who looked like her. Feeling the need to take up space, it all started with Bravo filming a blush try-on video in her car, and she has not looked back since. Bravo has been making videos for as long as she can remember but started social media work full-time in 2023. Her goal with her presence online is to create community and a space that makes folks feel seen, heard, and less alone. Whether through beauty or writing, she hopes her impact continues to grow bigger than herself.

Karrah Schuster, professionally known as Karrahbooo, is a rapper hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, electrifying fans with her rockstar-like energy, boastful lyrics, and nonchalant charisma – perfectly combined in her latest single, RIP Follies. She released her debut single, Money Counter, in October 2023, quickly gaining traction in the Atlanta hip-hop scene. From there, her local success led to a joint deal with label and collectives Quality Control and Concrete Boys.

Karrahbooo released her second and debut single as a signed artist, Box the 40, in 2023, which paved the way for a collaborative track, Splash Brothers, with fellow Atlanta rapper Anycia. Rachel Coster is the 28-year-old comedian behind the viral short-form series Boy Room, produced by Gymnasium. In it, Coster investigates the multitude of shocking ways that young men choose to “decorate” their bedrooms. She glides into each room with ease, off-the-cuff humour, and kindness, offering examples for often misguided (but always well-intentioned) renovations. Her unique approach to stand-up comedy leans on her improv background, loose and catered to the vibe of each audience with a vague structure and lots of room for discovery.

Misha Japanwala

Misha Japanwala is a Pakistani artist and fashion designer in New Jersey, whose work is rooted in the rejection and deconstruction of shame attached to one’s body and discussion of themes such as bodily autonomy, gender-based violence, moral policing, sexuality, and censorship. After being raised in Karachi, Pakistan, Japanwala moved to New York to study fashion design at Parsons School of Design. During her studies, she began moulding and casting her own body, which now forms the core of her creative practice.

By creating casts worn as sculptural garments, Japanwala’s artistic practice blurs the lines between fashion and fine art, clothing and nudity, and asks viewers to see the body exactly as it is. Her work is infused with an insistence for bodies to occupy physical space, emphasising that our bodies shouldn’t need to prove anything other than being allowed to simply exist. Japanwala has exhibited work in Pakistan and the US. Her pieces have been worn by Cardi B, Lupita Nyong’o, Lil Nas X, and Joy Crookes.

Hannah Traore

Hannah Traore is the founding director of her eponymous gallery in New York’s Lower East Side. Hannah Traore Gallery is a space committed to advocating for and celebrating artists who have been historically marginalised from the mainstream narrative. Traore is dedicated to broadening the notion of what is deemed appropriate for the gallery setting, aiming to engage both novice and experienced audiences in new ways.

Born in Toronto, Traore studied Art History at Skidmore College, where she curated Africa Pop Studio at The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum for her graduating thesis in 2017. After a year-long curatorial internship at the Museum of Modern Art, working alongside curator Isolde Brielmaier, Traore opened her gallery in January 2022. Efron Danzig

Efron Danzig is a 25-year-old skateboarder, photographer, and model who has walked shows for Balenciaga, Marni, Eckhaus Latta, and Collina Strada. She was born in New York and moved to Philadelphia when she was seven years old, spending her formative years playing in numerous punk bands and working in pizza shops. After returning to New York when she was 23, Danzig became a professional skateboarder for Vans and William Strobeck’s board company Violet, which he founded in 2022.

Danzig recently published her first book of photographs, Diary #1, which features earnest portraits of Danzig’s loved ones and self-portraits. Heavily inspired by the punk scene in which she grew up, her love of menthol cigarettes and the love that follows attention, her subject’s comfort is palpable in her photographs. Danzig is also currently pursuing projects involving clothing design. She has appeared in campaigns for Calvin Klein and in previous Dazed issues.

Colleen Allen

Colleen Allen is a Brooklyn-based fashion designer who launched her women’s ready-to-wear namesake label in February 2024 with her FW24 collection. Her designs explore femininity as a spiritual experience through the archetype of the witch. She works with saturated colour to elevate the wearer’s consciousness and draws from proportions and details found in Victorian and various historical dresses to create garments with a mystical sensibility. Allen is inspired by tarot and female surrealists, with her clothes themselves acting as a ritual tool for spiritual embodiment. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2019 and went on to be a menswear designer at The Row. Previously, Allen worked at Calvin Klein 205W39NYC under the direction of Raf Simons.

Brianna Holt

Brianna Holt is an author, writer, and journalist based in New York City. Her writing has been published in The New York Times, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, GQ, The Cut, The Atlantic, Vogue, and more. Her first book, In Our Shoes, On Being a Young Black Woman in Not-So “Post-Racial” America, debuted in August 2023. Part memoir, part cultural critique, Holt pulled from pop culture and her own lived experience to dissect the stereotypes and preconceived notions that young Black women must overcome in America today. Since releasing her debut novel, Holt has co-written a scripted podcast, Possession (Audible), which was nominated for a 2024 Ambie, and wrote her first screenplay, Blueprint, which was listed at The 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The psychological horror is currently in development.

Searows

Searows is the moniker of Alec Duckart, a 24-year-old Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter and guitarist. His debut album, Guard Dog, was released independently in 2022, receiving co-signs Ethel Cain and Gracie Abrams, both of whom he has since supported on tour. As an admirer of Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver, Duckart’s sound often feels like he is singing directly and solely to you. He discovered his creative voice by posting gorgeous but fleeting songwriting moments to TikTok. Dozens of minute-long expressions of unadorned lyrics found a cult following online but were never fully realised as complete songs.

Duckart entered the studio earlier this year to “complete” some of the songs that touched an emotional chord with his audience several years ago. Searows’ latest release, flush, is a fruit of these labours, transforming the original demo into something lush, spacious, and powerfully expressive, without losing the intimacy of those original bedroom recordings. It follows his acclaimed 2023 EP, End Of The World, and fan favourite, House Song.

Emmanuel Massillon

Emmanuel Massillon is a 26-year-old conceptual artist whose multidisciplinary practice includes painting, performance, sound, and sculpture. His work delves into the intricate histories of race, identity, and culture, particularly concerning people of African descent. Growing up in Washington, DC’s inner city, Massillon’s experiences shape his artistic narrative, challenging conventional norms and offering fresh perspectives on everyday life and politically charged subjects.

Massillon’s experimental practice utilises found objects and hand-carved wood from his Haitian heritage, using materials such as food products and cultural memorabilia. His unique visual language infuses street vernacular and visual puns, inspired by African-American music genres like Jazz, R&B, and Rap, which he views as vital preservers of Black culture. His work is in the permanent collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art and the C21 Museum.

Neema Githere Sïphone

Neema Githere Sïphone is a 27-year-old writer, artist, and guerrilla theorist whose work explores love and indigeneity in a time of algorithmic debris. Having dreamt themselves into the world via the internet from an early age, Sïphone’s work prototypes relationality-as-art through experiments that span social design, community organising, travel, and digital ritual. Sïphone has been building a research-based embodiment practice since 2016 as an undergrad at Yale University, beginning with a project called #DigitalDiaspora, which travelled to over 20 countries, exploring how Black cultural workers were articulating renaissance identities on and offline.

Sïphone’s concept of Afropresentism – a term they coined in 2017 to explore diasporic embodiment in the age of big data – has influenced conferences and exhibitions across four continents. As a 2023-24 Practitioner Fellow at Stanford University’s Digital Civil Society Lab, Sïphone embarked on a project to develop the guidebook for an internet-rehabilitation clinic informed by indigenous frameworks of repair as part of her speculative practice entitled Data Healing. A co-author of the Lonely Planet guidebooks for Kenya, South Africa, Djibouti, Angola, Rwanda, and Madagascar, Sïphone’s current voyages are focused on exploring origin myths across East and Southern Africa

Infinity Song

Infinity Song is a soft rock band based in New York, comprised of four siblings: Abraham, Angel, Israel, and Momo Boyd. With a blend of tight vocal harmonies, dreamy lyricism and sublime guitar riffs, the band creates a transcendent experience for the audience on every stage and song. Homeschooled, along with their five other brothers and sisters, by parents who founded the Boys & Girls Choirs of Detroit, the siblings have performed in front of audiences since Pre-K. In 2006, the Boyd patriarch, John Boyd, relocated the entire family from Detroit to New York. They soon began performing publicly all around the city, singing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the morning, on 5th Avenue in the afternoon and at Times Square at night. Eventually, Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain became a permanent stage for the next 12 years of their lives.

Day is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York, working at the intersection of film, design, photography, and creative direction. Originating from Long Beach, they spent their formative years moving across Los Angeles County, which laid the cornerstone for their work. Day also recently completed their first narrative short film, Lovin’ Her, a non-linear film about a mature trans woman navigating the complexities of a fading memory. Max Wolf Friedlich is the playwright behind the new Broadway hit set in a therapist’s office, JOB. The anxiety-inducing play has digital-themed twists and turns, following a young woman, Jane, who was placed on leave from her Big Tech–company job after a viral incident, and her therapist, Loyd. It was transferred to The Hayes Theater on Broadway in July 2024 for a 15-week limited run after 17 weeks sold out Off-Broadway. For JOB, Friedlich was nominated for the John Gassner Award for Best New American Play. Over a dozen (and counting) productions of the play are in the works at theatres worldwide, including in Washington D.C. at the Signature Theater and in Toronto at the Coal Mine Theater.

Through Kircher’s devotion to classical forms of image-making and the radical experimentation required for each of his subjects, his process bridges the idea between document and narrative. Kircher’s latest solo exhibition, Rotting From Within, opened at Carlier, Gebauer, in June 2024. In it, Kircher wove a deeply personal, autobiographical thread that explored the unearthing of his father’s history, the discovery of the generational trauma within the patriarchs of his family, and the subsequent task of uncovering himself amongst the things passed down.

Designer Connor McKnight, the founder of his eponymous New York brand, pulls from his memories of clothing worn amongst his peers growing up in Washington, DC. His designs include staples such as parkas, fleece jackets, and ski coveralls used for fishing, hiking, and camping during his childhood summers. “I love the idea that the Black youth in DC could be a part of a shift in the luxury market,” he says.

The 2024 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Designer finalist and Emerging Designer of the Year nominee explores “the daily life of generations past”. “My Dad told me a story of when he was going into his freshman year of high school, and his Dad took him to buy all new suits and ties for his uniform,” he says. “At the time, he would be one of the first Black students in the history of a prestigious prep school in DC, and his Dad wanted him to present as his best self.” McKnight hopes to unpack this relationship between history, refinement, and perception through his work as a designer, sparking a commentary on a greater cultural conversation.

Sasha Gordon is an artist who lives and works in New York. In her luminous and hyperrealistic paintings, the 26-year-old often renders her own likeness, conveying the self and its many guises through translucent layers of oils in electric hues. Executed with technical precision and rigour, her compositions treat her form as a kind of unorthodox avatar communicating a subjective and psychological experience. Gordon lets her surreal narratives unfold intuitively on the canvas, depicting bodies in sometimes absurd, darkly humorous scenarios or disorienting spatial compositions and portraying faces that translate a range of feelings.

Complicating the genre of self-portraiture and engaging the canon of art history, Gordon’s work expresses multiple psychic registers at once, addressing viewers with an honesty that is both familiar and unsettling in its intimacy. Lehuauakea is a Native Hawaiian interdisciplinary artist and kapa maker from Pāpaʻikou, Hawaiʻi. With a particular focus on the labour-intensive making of kapa (bark cloth), ʻohe kāpala (carved bamboo printing tools), and natural pigments, Lehua breathes new life into patterns and traditions practised for generations. Through these traditional Native Hawaiian craft practices, learned through apprenticing under practitioner Wesley Sen since 2018, their work addresses themes of environmental relations, Indigenous cultural resilience, and contemporary Kanaka Maoli identity. Lehuauakea aims to build on tradition and share it with the next generation to ensure that this mode of Indigenous storytelling is carried well into the future.

Lehuauakea’s work has been shown in exhibitions nationally and internationally. It is held in collections around the globe, including the Portland Art Museum, National Gallery of Victoria, Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art, Forge Project, and Museum of International Folk Art. The artist is currently based between the continent and Pāpaʻikou after earning their bachelor of fine arts at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. As part of the Native Hawaiian diaspora in North America, Lehua is committed to helping other Kānaka with similar experiences connect to their culture away from home and find empowerment in their heritage.

Qualeasha Wood is an interdisciplinary artist who contemplates realities around Black female embodiment. Inspired by a familial relationship to textiles, queer craft, Microsoft Paint, and internet avatars, Wood's tufted and tapestry pieces mesh traditional craft and contemporary technological materials. In her textile practice, she combines traditional craft techniques and modern technology, with her image acting as a point of departure for works that explore racial and gender identity as it relates to the Black femme body.

As a digital native, Wood says she navigates an internet environment that was once a space of celebration and recognition for Black femme figures, as well as a politically loaded site for the ongoing marginalisation and exploitation of their selfhood and culture. In her work, a pixel is equivalent to a stitch, each stitch an analogy for the past, present and future of Black femmehood, both on- and off-line, pre- and post-internet. In 2024, Wood had a solo exhibition at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Art + Culture in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was also included in the recent group exhibitions Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys in Brooklyn Museum, New York, and Threaded Visions: Contemporary Weavings from the Collection at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Xiye Bastida is a Mexican climate justice activist and mobiliser who earned her degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2024. Through her Otomi roots, she champions Indigenous worldviews as a solution for the climate crisis. Gabrielle Narcisse is a 23-year-old New Jersey artist, curator, producer, and director. In 2020, she started Black Girl Fight Club, an organisation dedicated to empowering Black women and femmes by fostering joy and community through diverse events and experiences across New York. What began as small picnic meet-ups in parks became their first annual art exhibition in 2022. From there, Narcisse launched a magazine, started a weekly yoga club, and has thrown multiple parties (starting with rooftop and backyard gatherings and then expanding to larger venues).

Narcisse is a lifelong artist, drawing as soon as she could hold a marker, attending dance classes at 3, and taking photos after being gifted her first camera at age six. The multidisciplinary artist practises in various mediums, including sculpture, painting, performance art, writing, video, and photo. Narcisse says she is passionately continuing to expand Black Girl Fight Club, utilising radical joy as an act of resistance.

Actor Ji-young Yoo is having a breakout year with three much-anticipated performances on the horizon. Yoo starred as a co-lead in the Amazon Prime Video six-part limited series, Expats, opposite Nicole Kidman and Sarayu Blue. In June 2023, the 25-year-old actor starred in the poignant coming-of-age drama Smoking Tigers, which had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. She won Best Performance in a US Narrative Feature for her role, and the film won Best Screenplay in a US Narrative Feature and the Nora Ephron Award Special Jury Mention. Adraint Khadafhi Bereal is a 26-year-old artist from Waco, Texas, based in New York. His work untangles the nuances of American culture by interrogating and provoking the truth to rear its head. Bereal’s first book, The Black Yearbook, a self-published book, documented the experiences of the Black student body at The University of Texas at Austin, a 52,000-student campus with a Black enrollment of less than 5%. This work was born from the desire of his peers to share their respective Black experiences after the creation of a zine titled 1.7, the percentage of Black men that enrolled in the university in 2018. This work made way for a follow-up with Penguin Random House.

Bereal travelled across the United States interviewing Black students about their college experiences at HBCUs, PWIs, public and private institutions, community colleges, and trade schools. His debut solo show, A Different Regard for Life, was presented by Nina Johnson Gallery in September 2024. This work reflected various personal and historical accounts of Texas collegiate history, the tragedy at Astroworld in 2022, a homecoming ceremony of his late aunt, and the transitioning of a dear friend.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, her career took off after being scouted on Instagram. After earning a degree in musical theatre, Reynolds moved to New York, working with renowned brands, designers and magazines such as Marc Jacobs, HommeGirls, Ganni, Michaela Stark, and Sephora. She has walked for Selkie at New York Fashion Week and Sinéad O'Dwyer at London Fashion Week. Reynolds is passionate about living and sharing her authentic self without the need to justify her body's existence in this industry – she believes it is statement enough on its own. Reynolds uses her visibility and social media to empower others to embrace and live comfortably in their unique bodies in an industry (and world) notoriously focused on unattainable body types.

Asha Ward

Asha Ward is a 25-year-old stand-up comedian, actor, and Emmy-nominated writer based in Brooklyn, New York. Ward, whose family is from Trinidad, was raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She became interested in performing comedy after taking an improv class at the Upright Citizens Brigade at 17. Ward graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in comedy writing and performance. As many comedy venues in Chicago had shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, she left the city soon afterwards, staying with relatives in Baltimore and Queens until she could afford to rent a room of her own in Brooklyn.

Ward was working a day job as a receptionist and nights as a stand-up comedian when she got a meeting with Saturday Night Live cast member Ego Nwodim. She then joined Saturday Night Live as its youngest writer in 2022. Ward has done stand-up on Comedy Central and Netflix. She was also named a 2023 New Face of Comedy as a part of Just For Laughs Montreal. Ward co-hosts a monthly show at Union Hall featuring the city’s best QTBIPOC comedians called Earth Tones.

Boma Iluma

Boma Iluma is a filmmaker who grew up between Abuja, Nigeria, and Atlanta, Georgia. He has strong emotional and familial connections to both places, communities, and histories. His interest in filmmaking and directing grew from acting in commercials for Cartoon Network, the NBA, and the Atlanta theatre scene. His directorial debut – visual art piece Negus – foregrounds how Blackness in America involves being actively unseen and violently misunderstood. It premiered in Los Angeles art circles in 2019. His debut narrative short film, Comfort, which was selected in Hillman Grad’s Rising Voices initiative, premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2021 and was acquired by Amazon Prime Video for distribution.

In the Summer of 2022, Iluma made his episodic Television debut on Paramount+/Showtime’s The Chi and has since directed four episodes, becoming one of the youngest directors in the network’s history. Roman Coppola also handpicked Iluma to write and direct a segment in The Seven Faces of Jane, an innovative feature weaving together eight 8-12 minute narrative short films. More recently, he’s directed music videos for pop stars Camila Cabello, Chloe Bailey, JoJo, Oxlade, and Mahalia. He’s currently developing a science-fiction feature film to be produced by Lena Waithe and her Hillman Grad Productions banner in what will be his directorial feature film debut.

Z In Woon is a model and self-proclaimed truth-teller. At 24 years old, they say they live a “pseudo-Hannah Montana life”, except they are still unsure who is Miley and who is Hannah. Born in Korea, raised in New Jersey and growing up and out of their teens in New York, their work is a true amalgamation of their life experiences. Z has modelled for Dazed, Vogue, and Interview Magazine, making their NYFW debut with Tommy Hilfiger and finding representation worldwide with Next. Z can also be found broadcasting their thoughts and experiences to their newly amassed 100k supporters on TikTok, but their plans have always extended past social media and high fashion. Since they were a teenager, Z has wanted to help people and spread their ideas of community and self-assurance. “I never asked for any of this, but I couldn’t be more grateful,” they tell Dazed.
